Squid Mixes: The Last Word

The Last Word combines gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice with a lime twist garnish.  I got my recipe from Drinking French by David Lebovitz.

The flavor is every bit as exciting as The Champs-Élysées.  We're definitely onto something with this Chartreuse stuff.  Happily, the maraschino liqueur holds up well.  I was also pleased that the green color of the Chartreuse comes through.

My wife suggested adding a cherry next time.

  1. I may pick up some of this chartreuse stuff. I saw it when I was last at booze palace but didn't know whether to get the green or the yellow at the time. Now I know it's the green.

I am not a fan of maraschino liqueur. It just doesn't have the cherry flavor I want. Cherry Heering is much better.
That said, I'm unhappy with all of the cherry drinks I've both tried and experimented with. The cherry flavor just doesn't hold up.

    1. We've also recently tried the yellow. It's also nice but the extra sugar definitely makes a difference -still dazzling but I like being able to sit with the weirdness and less sweetness is better for that.

I haven't played around with cherry too much. Yet. The Luxardo cherries are really nice and I've wondered about the flavor enhancing capacity of the syrup from those.

  2. The strawberry gin you featured recently made me wonder what other products might be available in Spain that one doesn't see here - well worth exploring someday.
