There is material devoted to what would happen if Sauron's reach extended that far but it never happens. By the end of Year 6 of HP, Hogwarts is no longer safe. We fell in love with the place along with Harry and now it is lost, at least for him. It's crushing.<br /><br />I assume you mean books 6 and 7 for Narnia? Of course, there are two different reading orders: publishing order or chronological order. I read in the latter. Either way, you're missing the best and most important book: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.<br /><br />As for great sections of nothing happening, Tolkien is hardly guiltless along those lines. Don't get me wrong, I worship Tolkien. He is the undeniable master of the genre. I'm not sure D&D even happens without Tolkien. But those Elvish songs...
