Novak Djokovic is the best player in the world. If there were any doubt before tonight, it's all gone now. Nadal put up a beautiful fight but in the end, Djokovic's victory seemed inevitable. Will he be able to even come close to matching this effort next year? It will be a tall order. He'll have significant points to defend at nearly every event he plays. He is the king until proven otherwise but I actually see Federer mounting a resurgence in 2012 - just when no one expects it.

My Tennis Fantasy

Current Overall Ranking: 16th
My MVP for the Week: Novak Djokovic with $1,800,000

  1. Three Grand Slam wins in a calendar year, right. But no French Open. Is clay a struggle?

  2. At worst, Djokovic is the third best clay court player in the world. Just this year, he has three clay titles, including two final wins over Nadal, reigning King of the Red Dirt. Djokovic might well have won the calendar Slam this year if he hadn't had Federer on his side of the draw in Paris. For whatever reason, Federer, not Nadal, is still Djokovic's toughest match-up, even at this stage of each of their respective careers. The Djoker has lost all of seven matches over the past 12 months but four of those have been to Fed. Add the fact that Roger, The Inspired Genius showed up on that particular Friday and Novak's dreams of a perfect year were pounded into the dirt. He'll probably win the French someday. But Rafa won't give up that hill without a fight.
