ReplyDeleteI've never had sap/syrup so close to its origins, but I've heard it's deciduous... er, delicious. :-)
I live in Vermont now but I grew up in Maryland.
DeleteAs for maple syrup, there truly is nothing like the real thing. People do tend to develop a grade loyalty, though. Last year's sap-running season was disastrously short. Hoping for better this time.

Okay. Keep an open mind, but here is a great combination of flavors:
DeleteFrench toast (preferably Challah) with a smear of peanut butter, sliced bananas and (grade B, apparently) maple syrup with (if you eat it) extra-crispy bacon on the side. And hot coffee!
I am allergic to PB so I'll have to take your word for it. Otherwise, it sounds good.

Oh goodness, no need to apologize. After all, I live with people who eat PB!
DeleteActually, peanuts are not technically nuts so not everyone who is allergic to the one is also allergic to the other. I'm just one of the unlucky who can't eat either.
In general, I try to avoid all of them. Almonds are also technically not nuts so I'm not as cautious with them. The ones that really give me trouble are walnuts. They have very little flavor of their own so it's easy to eat one by accident. With a peanut, on the other hand, I always know right away.
Fortunately, I'm not the sort who has to be hospitalized. Still, you wouldn't want to be me when I've eaten one by accident.

DeleteMy nephew is the same way. My sister (his mom) carries an EpiPen and his sisters can't have PB around him. He has a twin (a girl) but she has no nut allergies.

Hmm... I feel like there must be some obvious nut allergy episode in a show we've discussed previously but it's not coming to me.

Grade B is the BEST. John & I made maple syrup when we lived in Wisconsin, & we never fail to remember at this time of year.
