  1. The movies I love rarely are winners.
This year I have not seen seen any movies so I am not so invested.
Hope some of your pick win.
I just turned it on and it is who died this year. Gosh I know many of their names. Goodness I am so old.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. I haven't seen many either but I'm rooting like crazy for the ones I have. Patricia Arquette won - thank goodness. The rest hardly matters.

    2. I think Patricia Arquette is a much underused actress. She is quite luminous in her acting.
Very interested in the Polish Movie, Ida. I hope our Independent theater will be able to show it. I am really looking forward to it and The Theory of Everything.

    3. She certainly comes across as a grounded person - talented, socially conscious, minimal if any work done. She'll get gigs now. Anyone who can inspire the cheer she got from Meryl Streep is onto something.

  2. You did well. I wanted Boyhood to win Best Picture, but I'm satisfied with Patricia Arquette's win and brilliant speech.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. I was rooting for Boyhood but I haven't seen Birdman. It may, indeed, be more brilliant for all I know. Patricia Arquette was glorious. As I said to my wife after the speech, "She was ready!"

    2. Seeing Meryl Streep cheer Patricia's speech was almost as good as the speech.

    3. Absolutely, especially since Meryl had just lost the award to her (though she must have known she would)!

  3. Nice! I would not have gotten nearly as many right. Is it terrible that I really have no desire to see Birdman? Sigh.

    1. I'd kind of like to see it, though it will have to wait for home video. Not one for our daughter.

But no, there's no shame in not wanting to see it.

  4. Pretty good prediction numbers AS! I heard a bunch of people saying Birdman would win, but I didn't believe it. I guess I should watch it now.

    1. That's how I feel! Boyhood blew me away, though I suppose there's no reason to think Birdman couldn't do the same.

  5. As usual, the picture that won is one that I hadn't seen. I was surprised at all the awards to the Grand Budapest Hotel, however. I am looking forward to the next sequel, coming out pretty soon. Richard Gere is in this one.

    1. It's really high time Wes Anderson got some love from the Academy - certainly one of the most inventive minds in the current film industry.

  6. Hey, if I ever start gambling, I'm coming to you for my "picks."

Loved The Grand Budapest Hotel and I agree that Wes Anderson needed recognition.

Glory was a shoe-in to me. I've been developing a real love of John Legend. What a voice.

I've been planning to see Birdman, as I have always been a Michael Keaton fan. Wish I had seen it before the awards, However, I'm not awed by Boyhood the way a lot of people are. I mean, it's great and certainly ambitious, it just didn't grab me.

J.K. Simmons certainly deserved to get something! He has a pretty extensive, varied resume at this point. I love him, too.

    Great post, Squid!

    1. Birdman was a surprise winner, certainly, but if any of the acting awards had gone another way, it would have been a bigger surprise. All four winners had been cleaning up in all the events leading up to this. Redmayne already has a Tony so he's halfway to an EGOT and he's only what, 12?

  7. You actually scored well. Interstellar had some stiff competition in that category. I really thought Dawn would win.

    1. Interstellar had won the BAFTA in the category, generally a strong indicator.

  8. I am late in my posts:) I only got 12 right:) I was happy Birdman won over Snorehood. I was sad to find Redmayne won because, even though he was good playing a cripple (sorry not being politically correct), he was not as polished as Michael Keaton. I have only seen those 2 roles so i can't comment if Michael should have won overall but he should have over Redmayne. Now lets see if Travolta wins for best creepy man at next year's Oscars

    1. Big picture, I'll take Michael Keaton's life over Redmayne's anytime.
