Squid Bakes: Brownies
We've had a mild fall so far temperature-wise, a somewhat disturbing trend in Vermont in recent years. But it's starting to feel like cooler. Turning on the oven for baking is a more appealing idea than it was a few weeks ago.
I don't believe I'd ever made brownies from scratch before. I got my recipe from How to Cook Everything: The Basics by Mark Bittman. They turned out well. The ladies both liked them. They might be nice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream next time.
Brownies are one the of those from-scratch items people don't realise aren't that difficult to make, but doing it from scratch can make all the difference.
They were less cakey than I expected. Apparently, you have to do something different to make them cakey. I don't know what, though. These were plenty tasty.
My wife never makes anything but from scratch brownies. No boxed stuff.
ReplyDeleteMind you, the boxed ones aren't bad. I mean, they're still brownies...
DeleteEvery time I see brownies I can't help but think of that Barney Miller episode
ReplyDeleteI don't know Barney Miller at all. My daughter loves old sitcoms. Maybe we'll check that one out.
DeleteI used to make brownies from the cooking chocolate recipe. They were so good.
ReplyDeleteGlad your keeping up with the plan to cook more.
cheers, parsnip
This particular Bittman book is ideal for my skill level, too.

DeleteI love eating chocolate and brownies are no exception.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you there.
