The Clone Wars: The Box

Andrew Leon and I are watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Every Tuesday, we will be featuring an episode from the series which began in 2008.

Episode: "The Box"
Series: Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Season 4, Episode 17
Original Air Date: February 3, 2012

"The Box" is the third part of a four episode arc in which Obi-Wan Kenobi goes deep undercover with a couple of bounty hunters scheming to kidnap Chancellor Palpatine.  This time Kenobi and his new pals participate in a contest - the aforementioned Box - to determine who will actually participate in the abduction.  As much as I've enjoyed the story to this point, it goes a bit off the rails this week.  The contest is awfully gimicky, a cross between video game and Japanese game show.  Perhaps this helped to compress what could easily have been another three episodes into one but I'm guessing the writer had the Box idea first, then built the rest of the arc around it.  Just a hunch.

Derrown, a Parwan, is one of the other bounty hunters competing in the contest.  He is the first Parwan to appear in the Star Wars universe, though the idea for the species goes back to unused concept art from the cantina in A New Hope.

Derrown is voiced by Matthew Wood.

Next week: "Crisis on Naboo."

  1. Actually, I have a miniature of a Parwan from back when West End Games used to produce the Star Wars RPG. I suppose those minis are 20 years old, now.

I didn't care for this episode, either.

    1. Cool! I was never into collecting minis, even back in my D&D days. It's too bad. They'd be fun to have now.

    2. Theoretically, I never "collected" them. I bought them to paint mostly with the intention of selling them. Until I started playing Warhammer, then I was collecting figures for my army, but that, still, was not meant as "collecting."

Okay, well, I was collecting the Star Wars minis. You know, Star Wars.

  2. I remember this ark and I agree with the Box, It could have been more.
But I remember the Japanese game shows for when I was younger (than now) and they can be a hoot.
Do you have snow ? Lots of snow ?

    cheers, parsnip

    1. Not so much snow but it's been icy - decidedly less fun.

  3. Man! I'm so bummed regarding Carrie Fisher, and now Debbie Reynolds! I came to commiserate, because you are my go-to Star Wars friend.

    1. Yes. Very sad. I heard the Carrie Fisher news as I was coming out of my second viewing of Rogue One - a truly surreal coincidence. And Singing in the Rain is one of my favorites, too. :(
