Peach bitters, compared to others we've tried, is surprisingly strong in flavor. I haven't played around with peach drinks much - surprising in light of the fact fuzzy navels were what launched my interest in mixed drinks back in the day. As we shall see, later in the month (Spoilers!), peach holds up better in a cocktail than I would originally have thought.
There are some tiki drinks with various fruit liqueurs in them, but the fruit flavor is also very understated and we end up having to add extra liqueur to it to be able to have any flavor come through. Maybe I need to get some fruit bitters.
ReplyDeleteIn looking at recipes, I've come to the conclusion that is exactly what a lot of people use fruity bitters for: enhancing the flavor of other fruity ingredients. Angostura is different. It can be a prominent flavor in its own right. Cherry bitters? Not so much.
DeletePeach has been an unexpected exception. It comes through even with heavyweights like lime and lemon.
I wonder if it'd make a bellini with the addition of champers?
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I have seen bellini recipes with peach bitters - definitely worth trying.
DeletePeach + alcohol makes me think of bad schnapps, sickly sweet! But peach bitters seems like a flavour redemption.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I am a sucker for peach schnapps but I know you're right.
DeleteThe bitters is less of the sickly sweet peach candy flavor, more like a real peach. Definitely a winner.
So many drinks to report on, so little time.
ReplyDeleteWell yes. We all must make it through the Age of COVID somehow!
DeleteThanks.
