A Window Above: Sailing

Song: "Sailing"
Writer and Original Performer: Christopher Cross
Original Release: December 1979
Album: Christopher Cross

"Sailing" is the soft rock song to end all soft rock songs, a dreamscape anthem for what would eventually come to be known as yacht rock.  It won a ton of Grammys for Christopher Cross before MTV killed his career.  It is ridiculously schmaltzy and yet I find it irresistible.  The orchestral intro melting into the gentle guitar riff... hooks me every time.

  1. Your video's not available anymore.

I used to like this song when I was a teenager but, at some point, it just became annoying.

    1. Sorry about that. Should be all set now.

I willingly admit: this one's a guilty pleasure song for me.

  2. Same here, video is not up.

We listened to this song so long ago. Didn't really think too much of it. Different time of my life I guess.

    1. How do I put it kindly? He had what's known as a face for radio. Not homely but not cut out for a more glamorous era, the sort who would have made his fortune writing hits for other people.

  4. I remember that song from long before I began to sail... Sometimes sailing is like that, calming and peaceful. Other times it can be terrifying or, when racing, exciting and demanding every bit of your energy and mind.

    1. No doubt. I've only been once and got horribly seasick. It's a big hobby for some here. Lots of boats on Lake Champlain this time of year.
