What Will Your Favorite Sport Be Like in 30 Years?

Inspired by The Punch by John Feinstein, an open question for all:

How is your favorite sport different from what it was like 30 years ago?

Now, the obvious follow up...

Project forward. How will your favorite sport, and the sports world, be different 30 years from now?

  1. According to Star Trek, my favorite sport, baseball, dies out in 2042.

I can't imagine any real advancement in the equipment which seems unchanged from the last 30 years (though I am not a historian of the game). The only thing that springs to mind is the aluminum bats of college games but "the ping of the bat" will NEVER replace "the crack of the bat".

I would suppose changes will come with rules, technology (regarding the rules and player physiology) and expansion.

But I suspect that the game of 2040 will be closely recognizable to a fan from 1940.

As Terrance Mann says "The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."
