Autumn is a beautiful time in Vermont. We're still at least a week away from our peak colors, I would say, but it's already gorgeous.
Unfortunately, this is also the time of year when nasty colds start flying around. My wife likes a hot toddy when she's sick. I think they're nice anytime. Our recipe: hot water, lemon, honey and whiskey, usually preferring Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey. I tried Royal Crown recently, too, and that was most pleasant.
No whiskey or (ack) brandy for me but slip in a bit of rum and now we are talking:) I had ..um...an experience with Cognac when I was 19 and it still haunts me. I know no more Movie feature but I watched Criminal with Kevin Costner-quite well done and i would check it out. Tommy Lee Jones is getting old but so glad he has not had any plastic surgery
ReplyDeleteThere's really no reason you couldn't use rum instead. I like rum but I find it doesn't compete well with other flavors, especially citrus. The whiskey always shines through, though I suppose that isn't worth much if you don't care for the taste.
DeleteSorry to hear you don't like brandy. We had a lot of fun experimenting with sidecars recently.
Thanks for the film recommendation.
I'll take a hot toddy. Send it to me, please. I think a hurricane is the perfect time to have one, but I have no alcohol in the house. I shoulda hit the liquor store yesterday.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Be safe, Janie!
DeleteI usually go for spicy tea with cayenne in it.
ReplyDeleteYou are a Louisiana man in your culinary heart, aren't you?
DeleteYou know, I'm really not. It's just good for the throat.
DeleteHowever, I did used to make a killer jambalaya.
You do seem to like your peppers.
DeleteNever had a hot toddy but it sounds like a good reason to get sick. I hope you guys stay healthy A.S.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maurice. Me, too.
DeleteI have never had a hot toddy before. Never even knew what was in one. They do sound like a good remedy for a cold or a cold day. :)

Quite a comforting combination of flavors and warmth.
DeleteI drink hot water but I must add a dash of honey and lemon next time I get bit by the bug
ReplyDeleteCloves are nice, too.
