Squid Mixes: Snakebite

A snakebite combines cider and beer in equal parts.  The cider definitely provides the dominant flavor.  A side-by-side comparison with straight cider might be interesting sometime.  The color might actually be the biggest difference.

  1. mmmmmmmm this sounds really good to me. Have really cold on a hot summer day. Down here they add beer to lots of things, hot tomato veggie juice is a favorite.

    cheers, parsnip

  2. aaagh!
But how do you decide what kind of cider and what kind of beer?!?!

We've been getting this great pineapple cider. It's an awesome addition to a pina colada.

    1. The beer and cider choices would be worthy of experimentation. I favor a hoppier beer, which would mostly be lost here, I think. But, I wonder how a drier cider would represent itself. That might help bring out the beer.

I have never even heard of pineapple cider. Sounds amazing.

  3. This can be dangerous! Snakebites were banned from some pubs (back in my youth, and not my fault) because of the drunken fights that it helped fuel...
It is lovely to see it here though, as a refreshing drink rather than a cheap way to get fighting drunk :-)

    1. Yes, I've read about this. It's mystifying. It's not as if the alcoholic content rises. Is it just so good that people drink more of it? Hmm.

  4. We tried Snakebites over the holidays, loved them. I like it best with a dry cider, what about you? -Nancy

    1. Definitely up for the experiments on that one. That could make for a fun gathering! Perhaps we all bring the sleeping bags for that one.
