A Window Above: King of Pain

Song: "King of Pain"
Writer: Sting
Original Release: June 17, 1983
Band: The Police
Album: Synchronicity

Synchronicity came out when I was ten years old.  At the time, I would have claimed "Every Breath You Take" as my favorite track but I think "King of Pain" is the one that has improved with age.  I especially love the marimba part in the beginning.  It was the fifth single off of the album and peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts.

  1. Hmm... I've never bothered to consider which is my favorite song off of that album. I may have to do that.

    1. A great album is like that. Ask me ten years from now and my answer might be different.

  2. I don't remember that song, but I like it. I always know the sound of Sting's voice and I'm quite fond of Alanis. I missed most of the '80s with one child born in 1980 and the other in 1986.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. I know how that goes. My grasp of early 21st century pop culture is lacking for similar reasons.

  3. And I was already out of college when “The Police” became popular. While i liked this song, “Every Breath You Take” has been a favorite.

  4. One of my favorite Albums along with Mercury Falling and Ten Summoner's Tales.
One summer all I played was Heavy Clouds No Rain... we were in a big drought year.

    1. I am not as fond of Sting solo material but it's not bad.

  5. My favorite Sting became "Desert Rose." But it was also released during my peak music consumption years. How it usually goes.

    1. He is certainly an underappreciated genius. Parody rocks.

  7. That whole album is good, but I agree 100% that King of Pain has weathered the years well and risen to the top.

    Oh...and I have an unhealthy love of Weird Al...so there's that. :-)
